Class Experience

This course will teach students to install an all-in-one multiple retro video game system using your regular Windows computer. This will allow them to play retro games like Super Mario and Sonic The Hedgehog on platforms such as Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega, Sega Genesis, Gameboy, etc. Please note I do not provide the actual games themselves. Please review the supply list.

The advanced version of the course is "Build Your Own Video Game System (No Coding Required)! "

Students are expected to know basics of getting around a Windows computer. Clicking to open files, right clicking, downloading files, navigating with a mouse, some typing, able to do a google search etc.

I will use a combination of screen sharing and screenshots during the course.

Topics/Steps we will cover in this class include (but are not limited too):

- Software downloading and install
- Terminology and Computer Software components
- Discussion on files/folders
- Editing files/folders
- Playing games!

Please note that in some rare cases there there may be some external software/hardware issue that prevents a fully functional setup. I will do my best to help resolve, however in order to accommodate all students I cannot guarantee things will work 100% of the time.

Learning Goals

Students will have fun learning learning about computer concepts such as: operating systems, file and folder management, file transferring, software installation

Other Details

Supply List
-Windows 8/10 computer with Internet connection

-USB video game controller. This is not required, but its much easier to play a game with a controller instead of using a keyboard. The cheapest place I have found is eBay. You can also use Amazon. You may want to to consider getting 2 to play with a friend in the future or in case one breaks. Here is an example of a listing with faster shipping in the USA (https://www.ebay.com/itm/133393386570)

-Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Rom. The Rom is the game file. This is not required however, it is the actual game that students will want to play. You may need to do a google search on how and where to get these as well as understand legal requirements. Recommend having the file prior to class start.
