Class Experience

During these classes we will start with the basic parts of the guitar, stings names, the 3 basic chords G, D, C, and most importantly learning how fun it is to strum and play the instrument. This is an introductory class for students and no prior experience is required.
Lesson 1 - Students will learn the history of the guitar and basic parts of the guitar. We will learn the names of the strings and how to hold and strum the guitar.
Lesson 2 - Students will review the prior content and learn the chord G and practice strumming that chord. Learn Row Row Row Your Boat! We will take a look at the D chord and practice using it as well.
Lesson 3 - Students will review the prior content and learn the chord C and practice strumming that chord and transitioning between G, D, and C. Learn You are my Sunshine in class. Students will learn about different strumming techniques and find one that feels the most comfortable.
Lesson 4 - Students will review the prior content and practice strumming and transitioning between C, G, and F . Students will learn Happy Birthday and get to play one of the songs we have learned if they like. If there is time we will learn Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Please have your guitar tuned so that helps with some time. You can always learn how to tune your guitar before classes start by watching some youtube video tutorials. With these type of classes, times are approximately 45min. but class may run below or over based on how many students and how the students are understanding the content.

Learning Goals

By the end of Boot Camp, students will have the knowledge they need to play simple songs using the different chords. Students will have learned the basics of the history, how the guitar works, string letter names, the three beginner chords (G, D, and C), strumming and putting chords together to form songs.

Other Details

Supply List
I will provide the information and chord finger positions and all they need is a guitar and the willingness to learn something new every day. There are many free apps that you can download to help tune your guitar. I use Guitar Tuner app and it would be great if you could tune the guitar before class. We will talk about tuning the first class so after that class they should be able to tune the ukulele before the rest of the classes. You will tune your guitar starting with the top string and working down. The guitar should be tuned to the string names Low E, A, D, G, B, High E.
