This is the third class in the Intro Series. Please make sure that your student has taken the first two classes in this "Intro to Procreate" series (the donut - 1 and the rose -2). Across the board, students that skip the first two classes and enter the series with this class are overwhelmed and not able to keep up with students that have taken the entire series. I build on technique within each of the classes, systematically introducing new concepts - while reinforcing concepts from the previous classes. We will move quickly. If this is your student's first class with me, and to ensure that they get the most out of my classes, please make sure that they are familiar with: 300 dpi creating a canvas with enough layers and high enough dpi brushes smudge tool and different strengths eraser tool and erasing in patterns snap tool warp tool/transform tool/resizing images (in full and in part) opacity layers the palette and color picker tool choosing darker values, rather than black or gray to shade. Shading and highlighting on different layers Renaming layers Alpha Lock Clipping masks importing documents We cover more - like perspective in drawing and design elements in the first two classes- but that is extra art knowledge for students to tuck away!! In terms of the Procreate App, the above concepts are all covered in the first two classes and assumed understanding going into this third class. If your student is good with all of this - I think they will do great in the third class!! In this class we will concentrate on the more advanced aspects of Procreate, including transfer, selection and manipulating layers for the artist's desired effect. We will look at composition and how small changes can affect the overall feeling of a painting. We will have fun with blend modes and we will experiment with different quirks of the program, teaching solutions to some of the most common difficulties. We will also look at applications when we do not use clipping masks/Alpha lock and painting in patterns. We will find the formula for shading rounded objects to give the illusion of a 3D object. This will be a very hands on class, that moves quickly, as student's have taken the first two classes. We will manipulate our drawings, sharing the results with the rest of the class. Get ready to have some fun- and learn at the same time! The demo drawing will be provided- no drawing experience is required!! Can you "Survive the Cupcake "?? :-) **Please note: If your student has NOT taken the prerequisite classes (this is the 3rd in my Intro series) - I reinforce concepts already covered in previous classes at an accelerated pace as much of the program is assumed by the third class. In this class we begin to work on style and breaking the rules**
Learning Goals
In this class we will be manipulating our compositions, exploring and expanding our understanding of the importance of placement in our artistic pieces.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional artist, children's book illustrator and stage artist- my works have been exhibited around the world. I love working with the next generation of artists, teaching them my trade and nurturing their talent in an encouraging environment. I am a fast teacher that teaches a lot of information in my classes. Students that have studied with me for years are producing exceptional works that make my heart sing! :-)
I love teaching art to creative young minds and have taught in my community for over 15 years! I have taught homeschool art classes from ages 5-18 and I have also had the privilege of teaching art at local preschools AND I have taught art at nursing homes and retirement communities. This has given me to chance to teach from ages 2-92! I love exploring creativity through the lens of "You can do it - and I can teach you how!" No matter a student's current ability, with proven visual aids and assistance, I can help my students reach their personal goals. If they have the passion to learn, they WILL improve their skills!
As a means to help my students, I am continually improving my own skills, I stay current by continually practicing my own art and learning new techniques, while working with my agent in licensing my artwork. I stay current in my field so that I can keep my students current on trends and methodology.
It is my joy to learn and to teach!
Please note:
*My classes cover a lot of material and are jam-packed full of information that deal with the nuts and bolts of the apps that I teach.
*My classes are fast-paced and full of information and practical applications.
*For most classes, uploads are required before class begins. Please check the classroom beforehand to ensure that all the files are loaded and ready to go in the Procreate gallery. We need every second of class time for instruction.
*I strongly encourage students to take my classes in order. There are many things to be learned in each class and each lesson builds on material presented in the previous classes.
*While I am teaching, I can not answer emails and try to honor my families time by keeping office hours of M-Fr 9-5 for communications.
One last note: It is better for your student to take my classes on two devices ---one to draw on and one to watch the Zoom class! If this is not an option, remember that the recordings will be available after class!! My classes are jam packed with information and tend to move quickly!
Your student CAN do this - I CAN teach them how!
--See you in the classroom!!
(Because I am currently illustrating within the industry - my schedule on Outschool has become more sparse. Please let me know if there is a class/time that you are interested in!)
