In this one day course, students will learn the basics of fractions and use models to represent different fractions.
Class experience
In this class, students will learn the basics of fractions. Students will learn what each part of a whole is called. Then we will go over vocabulary words such as numerator, denominator, partition and whole. Once students have a good foundation in the vocabulary words students will move on to create models that support any given fraction such as a draw a model (circle, rectangle, number line) to represent the fraction one third. Students will be able to name each part of a whole. Students will be able to identify what is a numerator and a denominator. Students will be able to provide a variety of models to support a given fraction.
