45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, students will learn the basics of fractions. Students will learn what each part of a whole is called. Then we will go over vocabulary words such as numerator, denominator, partition and whole. Once students have a good foundation in the vocabulary words students will move on to create models that support any given fraction such as a draw a model (circle, rectangle, number line) to represent the fraction one third. During each part of the lesson, I will explicitly teach students and then give them time to work independently to solidify the new concepts learned. While students are working independently, I will provide feedback that will allow students to strength the new material learned.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to name each part of a whole. Students will be able to identify what is a numerator and a denominator. Students will be able to provide a variety of models to support a given fraction.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Emy Delgado and I am a 4th grade grade teacher in Orlando, Florida! I have taught for 8 years, 7 of those have been in 3rd grade :) I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2016 with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I also have endorsement in Reading K- 12, ESOL and Gifted. My passion is developing the love for reading and math within my students. Every school year, I make it my goal for students to love reading by the end of the year. I would say last year I met that goal because my students, as a class, read 6,000,000 words! Yep, you read that right, six million words! I was beyond proud of them and their hard work. I also love to teach cursive to my students! They get so eager to learn a new letter and create sentences! Parents tell me all the time that their child goes home and practices their cursive any opportunity they can get. Math is another passion of mine! I love to teach students multiple strategies on how to solve one single problem. I always tell my students that we all think differently and so we have to find what works best for us.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with your student!
