Prior experience is required. Students need to have played the saxophone for a minimum of 6 months and/or completed the Essential Elements Book 1. Beginning in the Essential Elements Book 2, we will be covering an average of 2 pages per lesson and there will be required homework each class. I will begin each lesson with review of what was taught the previous week and expect students to demonstrate an understanding of the assigned and practiced exercise(s). Students will then be introduced to the new concept (i.e. notes, timing, theory) as I will demonstrate, and then allow the students to sight read through the exercises for that day's lesson giving tips and helping as necessary. At the end of the lesson, students will be instructed upon what to practice for the coming week in preparation for the next lesson.
Learning Goals
Week 1- practice warm up # 90 as a group, play #84 or 86 independently. Pg 18 & 19 Review, E flat/ D# introduce new note high C. Homework: exercise #94, #95 and try 96
Week 2- practice #94 as a group, then #95 independently. Pg 20 & 21 introduce 6/8 time signature. Homework: exercise #100 and #106
Week 3- play 106 as a group, then #100 independently. Pg 22 & 23 introduce chromatic scale, review staccatos and crescendos Homework: #114 & 115
Week 4- play 114 as a group, then #115 independently. Pg 24 & 25 introduce triplets, high C# and high D. Homework: exercises #125 &126Other Details
