Class Experience

In this class, kids will learn how to write/tell creative stories about a topic of their choosing!

I recently asked this question on Facebook:

What is your kid's biggest struggle when it comes to writing?

The biggest struggles mentioned were lack of confidence, doubting their ideas, and not grasping the "mechanics" of writing. With this focused knowledge on where the kids in my community were feeling stuck when it comes to writing, I started making power points and resources for creative writing classes.

Writing is a critical skill when in any profession. Knowing how to write well means knowing how to communicate well in diverse settings. I am so passionate about giving kids confidence in their writing through teaching effective personalized classes and equipping parents with the tools to continue this process at home because I believe what they have to say matters.

In the course, I would teach creative writing by building enduring confidence in their writing. We do this through sharing our writing aloud and learning how to give helpful and encouraging feedback after actively listening to others.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an experienced writer, speaker, reader, and teacher. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English with an emphasis in Writing from Azusa Pacific University. Almost immediately after graduation, while working under a New York Times Bestselling Author as a Proofreader, I furthered my education by earning a Certificate in Proofreading from the Editorial Freelance Association.
I have poetry, fiction, and non-fiction pieces published in a variety of literary magazines such as Barren Magazine, The Sun, and The Wales Haiku Journal. I've written a myriad of Spoken Word pieces and shared them at weddings, churches, and coffee shops. I've won awards in Impromptu Speaking and Speech Writing. I see writing, not as a tedious task, but as a pathway for understanding and connection with one another.

I am well experienced in both in person and remote teaching. I have worked with families in high stress settings for several years. I've taught Hands On English Classes and Trauma Informed Writing Workshops in refugee communities from California to Italy. I've volunteered in classrooms with differently abled students.
