1 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will do a step by step drawing of Kang or Kodos. They will vote on which one to draw in the beginning. I will be demonstrating how to draw the characters by going step by step. We will first draw them in pencil. We will go over the pencil with a black marker or colored pencil. We will finish the drawing by coloring them together as well. If students want to make embellishments or change things in the characters they are free to. If we finish one character we will start another. At the beginning of class we will look at some pictures of the characters, talk a bit about them and then we will choose which picture to draw first. While drawing I will be asking students questions about the Simpsons, their favorite episodes and characters. I will be checking in on students progress and will constantly be available for questions, tips, help if they need it. I am giving tools to artists so that they can more accurately capture and replicate something from observation. However, I don't believe that copying should always be the goal and I really encourage artists to be happy with however their drawing looks. Drawings that don't necessarily look just like the original can look even more visually interesting and are highly appreciated by me as being unique to the artist. At the end of the drawing students will share with each other and me if they feel comfortable.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to draw the characters Kang and/or Kodos from the Simpson's Treehouse of Horror Shows. I will be talking a lot about proportion and measuring, as well as what types of lines and shapes are used to draw Kang and Kodos. In all of my step by step drawing classes my goal is to give students tools to more accurately capture an image when they go to draw something on their own from observation or from photos.
One of my main goals in art class is also to encourage students to appreciate their work however it turns out. To adapt to change and to consider mistakes challenges.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a current K-4 art teacher, artist, and mom who loves making and teaching. My favorite thing to do is to draw and paint with kids while introducing them to new ways to think about, make, and create art. I teach drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture and more! I love to introduce kids to new artists and to fill their visual bucket.
I have my Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Arizona and my Masters of Fine Art from the University of Texas. I studied painting and drawing for both degrees. I worked as an animator for 14 years and also as an exhibiting artist for over 20 years. I have taught drawing and figure drawing for 5 years at the college level and I have taught art in many settings besides school, such as summer camps and nursing homes!
I believe encouraging children in art has many benefits such as: fostering creativity, fostering abstract thinking and broadening understanding of other peoples experiences and cultures. These are 21st century skills that are becoming more important each day. Art is an awesome way for children to interact with the world and I love being part of their art education experience!
