This is an ongoing class where you can join at any time. Learners will need to create an account on Scratch. Learners will get familiar with coding concepts such as conditionals, algorithms, events, and variables. Students will learn to use block coding and the Scratch coding website. Students will also learn how to upload and create sprites and backgrounds. They will learn computational thinking such as problem-solving and perseverance. The class will be structured with a preview of the final project. Next, I will go step by step along with the learners to create the projects. Finally, students will have some independent time to remix or make the project individualized. Finally, students will have an opportunity to share the project with the class. The material in this class does not build. Learners can join or leave at any time. Week of February 12: Code a Funny Joke - Learners will code a knock-knock joke or other funny joke using code blocks. Week of February 19: Animate Your Name - Learners will code the letters in their names to do different actions with code blocks. Week of February 26: Code a Birthday or Holiday Card - Learners will code a card for someone with code blocks. Week of March 5: Code a Virtual Pet - Learners will code a pet that they can feed and take care of with code blocks. Week of March 12: Code a Pong Game - Learners will create a game that is similar to Pong where the object bounces. Week of March 19: Code a Dance Party - Learners will create a party with music and effects.

I teach book clubs, coding classes, and STEM classes. I have been teaching for 15 years. I've taught kindergarten to fifth. I am a gifted education teacher. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education, Gifted Education, and Educational Leadership. I believe in active learning, learning through practical experience, and making learning fun! I have two boys, ages 9 and 11. I also have 2 shelter dogs, Dixie and Sandy. Fun fact: I love to write poetry and I can rap.
