US Grade 9 - 12
In this class, students will practice having conversations in French as a large class and as smaller groups. There will be a new conversation topic each week, and at the beginning of class (after any necessary introductions and greetings), I will ask a few icebreaking questions that may not relate to our topic. The group portion is to help students feel comfortable with each other, and also so I can gauge where each student is at in their conversational skills. Then, students will go into break out rooms*. Breakout rooms may vary in size, but there will never be more than 4 students in a room. Groupings will either be randomized or based on student level so that there is a mix of levels in each group. I will give students a list of conversation questions to guide them, but they will also be welcome to come up with their own questions, even if they aren’t completely on topic for our theme. *I am always switching between rooms to help, prompt, and make sure students are on-topic, appropriate, and speaking French. Finally, we will come back to the main room, and students will be allowed to ask questions about grammar, vocabulary, or anything else they weren’t sure about while conversing. Parental Guidance
This is NOT a beginning French class. Its primary focus is to review and practice what was learned, so students MUST have taken 1-2 years of French and have basic / developing conversational skills.
Breakout rooms will be constantly monitored by me switching between rooms, and if needed after several warnings, I will end them early. I will always explain to students that they should be kind and respectful, stay on topic, and speak French unless absolutely necessary to speak English.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been learning French for 9 years now, from French 1 - French 5 as well as 4 years of immersion French classes. I am conversationally fluent and at a C1 level. I have tutored French immersion from May 2020 through August 2020 when the French immersion school near us closed for quarantine, and I've been teaching French online for two years.
I also continue to take French lessons with native speakers, and I am working towards my Bachelors in French, which includes classes in advanced French immersion, French literature, and French education. I attended a 7-week summer French immersion camp through Middlebury College.
I also have my certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the principles from which I apply to my French classes.
