1 hour per week. Students will be given worksheets to print out after the class to reinforce their learning. Because this class meets once, this is optional and they have the choice to send their homework to me to look over.Assessment
I do not routinely give an assessment at the end of the class. However, if a student or parent would like an assessment, they may request one by emailing me.Class Experience
Did you know that Japanese has three writing systems? I know, hard to imagine right? Well, in this one time class you will learn to read, write and pronounce 15 of the 69 characters of Hiragana (one of the writing systems). But wait? Doesn’t Hiragana have only 46 characters? Well, I am including both the ten ten (not from Naruto) and maru characters as well. Don’t know what they are? Well, you will just have to take this course to find out. Day 1: Students will be able to read, write, and pronounce. あ, い, う, え, お か, き, く, け, こ が, ぎ, ぐ, げ, ご Day 2: Students will be able to read, write and pronounce さ, し, す, せ, そ ざ, じ, ず, ぜ, ぞ た, ち, つ, て, と だ, で, ど Day 3: Students will be able to read, write and pronounce な, に, ぬ, ね, の は, ひ, ふ, へ, ほ ば, び, ぶ, べ, ぼ ぱ, ぴ, ぷ, ぺ, ぽ Day 4: Students will be able to read, write and pronounce ま, み, む, め, も ら, り, る, れ, ろ や, ゆ, よ わ, を, ん Day 5: Students will be able to 1. Review all Hiragana Characters 2. Write your names in Hiragana 3. Learn the Hiragana rules A. Learn about pronouncing and reading long vowels B. Learn about pronouncing and reading double consonants C. Learn about traditional sounds D. Learn about particles E. Learn about the small や, ゆ, よ You will enjoy this class. We will play games (hidden Hiragana game and much more), as well as see PowerPoint slides and read street signs that are in Japan. I want you to have an amazing time and enjoy what you are learning. I received my undergraduate degree in the Japanese language, culture, and history. I also earned my Master's degree in K-12 education. I studied abroad at Nihon University in Tokyo as well as worked as an English teacher in Niigata, Japan. I was able to see what I learned firsthand.
