Students will explore 4 interesting and unusual animals who call the Outback home: The Dingo, Kookaburra, Koala and Platypus! We'll review continents through an interactive slideshow, identify Australia as both a continent and a country, discuss the 6 states, 2 territories of Australia, and learn fun facts about each animal. Throughout the lesson, students will be asked many questions to encourage critical thinking and improve retention. Literacy, vocabulary and map skills are also enforced, as students follow along reading and learn new terminology. Key terms: predator, domesticated, Aboriginal, marsupial, nocturnal, monotreme, venomous, solitary After learning fun facts, we'll play "Guess That Sound!" where students take turns guessing the correct animal. To check for understanding, students will select their favorite animal and tell the class one thing they learned at the end of the lesson. Included are printable documents with animal nomenclature cards that students can read before class begins, and a color-coded map of the 8 regions so students can identify where each animal lives.

My classes offer a Montessori-style approach to learning, which includes supporting images or video with text, and many open-ended questions to encourage critical thinking skills. Whenever possible, literacy, vocabulary, number sense, science and geography are all baked into my lessons.
My main goal in education is to make learning fun, and to foster a sense of wonder and lifelong curiosity about our world.
My experience in home-education and various homeschool cooperatives have given me the opportunity to work with children of all ages, and create fun and engaging activities that are easily absorbed. I have organized group service projects and extracurricular classes such as Art shows, Geography Fairs, STEAM workshops, LEGO Club, Green Team Recycling, and more! I am also the founder of a Multicultural Homeschool community and offer classes focused on world cultures, art and various other subjects.
