Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Students will explore 4 interesting and unusual animals who call the Outback home: The Dingo, Kookaburra, Koala and Platypus!

We'll review continents through an interactive slideshow, identify Australia as both a continent and a country, discuss the 6 states, 2 territories of Australia, and learn fun facts about each animal.

Throughout the lesson, students will be asked many questions to encourage critical thinking and improve retention. Literacy, vocabulary and map skills are also enforced, as students follow along reading and learn new terminology.

Key terms: predator, domesticated, Aboriginal, marsupial, nocturnal, monotreme, venomous, solitary

After learning fun facts, we'll play "Guess That Sound!" where students take turns guessing the correct animal.

To check for understanding, students will select their favorite animal and tell the class one thing they learned at the end of the lesson.

Included are printable documents with animal nomenclature cards that students can read before class begins, and a color-coded map of the 8 regions so students can identify where each animal lives.
