Class Experience

In this class, students will learn about the four types of sentences: declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory. We will watch a video clip as an introduction. Then we will complete a story about a dog who lost his bone. Our job will be to insert the correct punctuation after each sentence. A worksheet will be provided for this activity and it will also be projected on the screen. We will then work on a sorting exercise to further add to our understanding of the types of sentences. Lastly, Students will create their own examples of the different types of sentences and will have the opportunity to share with others.
This class will be interactive and engaging. I am a patient and understanding teacher who meets kids where they are. I understand that not all kids can learn in the same way or even on the same day.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about the four types of sentences and the punctuation marks that go with each one. Students will be taught the four types of sentences, practice identifying the types of sentences, and create their very own sentences for each type.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I am Teacher Angie and I love teaching all things reading for grades K-5. I particularly enjoy teaching the foundational skills of reading: phonemic awareness and phonics. Teaching students to talk about and write about comprehension of a text is also a favorite of mine! All classes I teach are interactive and engaging so that true learning takes place.

I have taught First Grade and Fourth Grade as a homeroom teacher for 13 years. I then went on to teach Reading, as an intervention teacher in Grades K-5, for 6 years. Currently, I am in my third year serving as one of two System Literacy Coaches in our county of 24 elementary schools. In addition to my current role of teaching teachers best practices in English Language Arts, I tutor students and teach summer school.

I believe ALL students can learn. I also believe that students respond best to teachers who care about them. In addition, differentiation is key. All students learn differently, therefore, there must be a variety of teaching methods used in lessons. My students will know that I am their biggest cheerleader. If a student isn't learning, it is not his/her fault. Instead, the method of teaching needs to be changed to meet the student where he/she is.

When I was in elementary school, I struggled as a reader. Now, you will often find me with a good book in my hand when I have free time. My most favorite thing to do ever is going camping, laying in a hammock, and you guessed it... READING!
