Beginner Level
For this course, I use Houghton Mifflin's Go Math! series which is aligned to state standards in more than 40 states within the United States. This one-time course will cover ways to add up to twenty in a fun and engaging way. It will teach strategies for solving addition and algebraic thinking. The math curriculum I use blends student-centered and teacher-directed approaches to a mathematics education aligned with the CCSS. The curriculum aims to enhance achievement in mathematics by improving the student’s understanding, achievement levels, and test scores. It was designed to support students while they advance throughout the year with abstract and concrete material. The program is supplemented with technology to promote a hands-on, comprehensive, and personalized experience. GO Math! offers an engaging and interactive approach to covering the Common Core State Standards. The Math Course is designed using the proven 5E instructional model, guiding students toward proficiency by building on their previous understanding of mathematical concepts. Embedded formative math assessments ensure students get the support they need. The Go Math Program offers valid and reliable benchmark assessments that can automatically place students into personalized, adaptive practice based on domain and grade-level readiness, and provide me with timely insights into proficiency. Go Math is utilized to better prepare students to thrive in daily life and compete both domestically and in the global market. 43 states, the District of Columbia, and 4 U.S. territories have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) (Common Core State Standards Initiative, 2014) in mathematics and a similar number in English language arts. These standards emphasize procedural and conceptual knowledge, preparing K-12 students for progressively more complex mathematical reasoning (National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, Council of Chief State School Officers, 2013).
