US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Learners will practice with addition doubles facts through 20 (for example, 8 + 8 = 16) and will learn the “Doubles Plus One” addition strategy through a variety of math activities in this one-time class. The purpose of this class is to help learners build confidence and gain fluency with common doubles addition facts. Knowing these addition facts is foundational to future math skills. The atmosphere of this class will be fun and engaging for learners. We will explore doubles concepts through the use of songs, activities, and games. Parents are invited and encouraged to participate. This class is appropriate for learners who have a basic understanding of the concept of “double” and are just beginning to work with adding doubles (for example, 7 + 7 = 14). Learners will need to come to class with the following materials: (1) 25 small counters (like cereal, buttons, or pennies), (2) paper and pencil or whiteboard and marker, (3) Doubles BINGO board available in the Outschool Classroom.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I’m so excited to offer this class as both a teacher who is a math nut and as a mom with kids who love math! I am a certified teacher, and in addition to teaching education courses for the local university, I currently teach math to small groups in my 2nd grader’s classroom and accelerated math to a small group in my 4th grader’s classroom. Through my small group teaching experiences and background as a professional educator, I have learned so many great strategies for making early math fun and interactive. I’m looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm and experience with you!
