Learner progress will be assessed by the teacher daily during each lesson as she sees that students are becoming comfortable, independent and fluent in their reading. Comprehension will be monitored regularly through questions and answers as well as activities on the slides that require students to demonstrate understanding. Writing will improve as students keep a regular journal that will show their progression over time. Parents can also assess their own child's progress as they become more independent during their participation in class, their own independent reading, as well as how they are using learned information and reading techniques outside of class.Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⭐Course Overview⭐ ▬▬▬▬▬▬ In this class, students will be introduced to reading in French at a beginner level. We will be using the Reading A-Z program, and each week we will focus on a new story from Levels A, B, and C. These stories will follow the adventures of school-age children as they explore their world every day, covering topics such as family, home, school, the park, the zoo, friends, pets, and the store. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩🏫Teaching Style👩🏫 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Our class will consist of letter activities, vocabulary review, story reading, comprehension, and writing. We will have some writing activities on the screen that will require students to access their writing tools on their computer (Zoom Annotation), and some activities that will require paper, pencil, crayons, and/or markers at home. We believe that reading should be enjoyable, so we will delve into each adventure in a fun way by talking about what is happening, exploring our curiosities throughout the stories, and relating what we learn to our own experiences. Students will interact with each other and the teacher continuously throughout the lesson through talking, writing, reading, and completing activities on the slides. 📅 Are you looking for a class that meets 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x per week? Send us a message about a class frequency change. 💬 We can also accommodate learners and families wanting full immersion vs. bilingual classes. Send us a message to learn more! ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🌍Target Student🌍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Students who enroll in this class should be VERY familiar with all letters and sounds of the French alphabet. If they are not, we recommend they sign up for our class French Calendar and Circle Time (K-2) (Academic Year) (Level 1). At the reading level, readers might display characteristics such as pretending to read familiar stories, recognizing and naming more letters as they are exposed to print and instruction, identifying uppercase letters with greater ease than lowercase letters, and attempting to track print with their finger in books and other texts. We will be working on improving these skills, along with other skills like identifying rhyming pairs, counting syllables in words, and increasing sound recognition. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 💬Language of Instruction💬▬▬▬▬▬▬ This is an immersion class, which means lessons will be taught primarily in French. However, teachers will use English as necessary to guide students. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📚Weekly Course Examples📚 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ In the first four weeks of class, we will be covering the following topics: ⭐Week 1: The Big Cat ⭐Week 2: Carlos Goes to School ⭐Week 3: Hamster Home ⭐Week 4: Maria Goes to School Students are welcome to join and leave at any time, as there is no previous information needed in order to succeed in the current week’s lesson. If you’d like to know exactly what week we are in (and that week’s topic), please send us a message to inquire. We look forward to helping students learn to read in French and making reading an enjoyable experience for them!

Doris Sandra Avoum:
Bonjour!
I’m Doris and teaching languages is my passion and my full time job. I’m from Cameroun and I live in USA. I love speaking French. I have studied French for about 18 years and I have been teaching it for 3 years. I have a Master degree in Medical Anthropology from the University of Yaoundé 1.
In my experience as a teacher, I’ve met people with multiple learning goals, so I can say I’m a flexible patient teacher and I’m able to adapt a lesson to different ways of learning and needs. I love interacting with students and being part of their learning process.
During my lessons, I prefer to use a communicative approach whether to study vocabulary, pronunciation or active grammar. That is, in other words, I focus on the use of the language and try to create a 100% French speaking environment progressively.
Regarding grammar teaching, I use both an inductive and deductive approach. For instance, you can discover the rules through different activities that require your engagement and interaction or I can explain to you any aspect of grammar by giving you the rules and practicing with examples and exercises. Sometimes we can do one of these ways or both in the same lesson, taking into account your learning style.
