Build-A-Frank allows students to illustrate their own customized Frankenstein, using Procreate on iPad or iPhone! Mr. Niven will take students through various steps, layer by layer. A signature element of each of Mr. Niven’s classes is his natural introduction of new techniques, and art principles, (some of which are his own techniques), without students even realizing they’re being taught. Some techniques covered are selection blending, (one of Mr. Niven’s own processes, modeled after airbrush masking techniques), as well as brush lighting and more. This class utilizes state-of-the-art, screen-sharing technology, using Zoom, which allows students to see and hear Mr. Niven teaching, while watching him draw directly on his iPad screen. Mr. Niven’s teaching style is fun and relaxed, yet motivating, which allows the students to feel comfortable, and confident. Bryan builds on principles, techniques and processes, using real-world examples, and motivates his students to use the knowledge gained in class, to create on their own.
Students MUST have Procreate downloaded prior to class. This class can be done on either iPad or iPhone, and Mr. Niven recommends using a stylus for added control. Apple Pencil is BY FAR the best stylus for iPad, but not needed for this class. Two other brands of stylus Mr. Niven recommends are Wacom (Bamboo Fineline or Sketch, both of which support pressure sensitivity on iPad and iPhone), and also Adonit, which are great for precise control, and also have several styli that support pressure. For more information on software and hardware, including information about procreate, and the various styli, as well as compatibility, and recommendations for various iPads, or iPhones that support Procreate, please consider enrolling in Mr. Niven’s Digital Art Orientation, for Students and Parents.
Bryan Niven is an award-winning artist and photographer, whose creativity and skill set spans multiple areas of art and motivation. He has taught thousands of students over the years, in classroom settings and in travel workshops, in places like Arches National Park, and New York City. Although Mr. Niven has taught advanced art and photography to all ages, he loves teaching art to children, because he loves how honest and creative they are. Mr. Niven has also been asked to share his art on various occasions, by companies such as Apple and Adobe for purposes of motivating young and old alike.
