Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 5

Beginner Level

Children will be directed to create one of kind winter wonderland paintings using methods that might be new to them.  They will use teacher provided shapes with their own winter colored paints, straws, and aluminum foil in unconventional ways.  They will select the snowmen they want to use and colors of paint to set their own style.  Children will be encouraged to explore the methods and techniques shown through trial and error.  They will gain skills which foster critical thinking and problem solving.

Pictures and videos will be provided to help guide children with their paintings.  Clear examples will be given.  A complete supply list is listed.  Children will be inspired to make their paintings one of a kind.  Their self-expression and creativity will shine!

Learning Goals

To create one of a kind winter themed snowmen process art paintings.  Each painting will be as unique as real snowmen are.  Children will use methods that may be new to them.  They will explore techniques through trial and error.

Lesson 1:

Experimenting With Process Art To Create Your Own Snowman Wonderland

 Children will generate unique process art paintings for winter of snowmen. They will experiment with various techniques to create their own beautiful winter wonderland. Children will gain skills which foster critical thinking and problem solving. They will be encouraged to explore the methods and techniques shown through trial and error. Children will walk away with new knowledge of painting outside the box and an open mind to trying new things. Their self-expression and creativity will shine.

Learning Needs

This class is for everyone. Age or ability does not matter. For those who do not like to get messy they will not have to directly touch paint. This is a great hands-on experience. Sensory skills will be increased.

Parental Guidance

Some may need assistance pouring paint, with cutting, and preparing for the projects.

Pre-Requisites

A love for painting, creating, experimenting, winter, and snowmen.

Supply List

snowmen templates (patterns) provided - PRINT AT LEAST TWO COPIES

at least two sheets of one of the following: canvas panel, watercolor paper, canvas paper, mixed media paper, cardstock

scrap paper

light blue, dark blue, turquoise, purple, gray acrylic or tempera paint (these colors are suggested, you may use other colors if you would like)

black and orange acrylic or tempera paint (a small amount of each color)

paper towel

paper plate/cardboard/paint tray

4 plastic straws (have extras on hand)

2 sheets of aluminum foil

2 q tips or a paintbrush

scissors

scotch tape

5 files available upon enrollment
