Class Experience

Have you ever dreamed about having your own babysitting business? Do you love to play with and help young children? Or maybe you are a little too young to babysit on your own and would like to explore being a mother’s helper instead? This is the perfect class for you!

This is a FLEX class, meaning there are NO live classes and students can watch the videos/complete assignments at whichever time during the week is best for them.

In this class, we will explore what it looks like to create a business focussed on both 1) babysitting and 2) being a mother's helper. We will discuss:

Week 1:
-The roles expected in each of these positions.
-Why choose one over the other
-Naming your business
-How to make a logo using Canva
-Homework:
-Pick your business model, business name, and create your logo and business card.
-Students will “hunt” together this week for various business logos that accurately represent their business without requiring words (I.e. a cupcake shop with a cupcake in its logo).
-Students will share their logos on the classroom with each other for feedback and encouragement.

Week 2:
-Ways to market yourself, especially with safety in mind.
-Various types of marketing materials, and how to create them in Canva
-How to find tour local laws for babysitting, as well as talk to your grownups for their expectations while you babysit.
-How to price your services.
Homework:
- This week, students will research the going rate for babysitting in their area. They will compare with one another in the classroom to discover how various places have various standard rates.

Week 3:
-How to create a "babysitting bag" to enhance your services.
-What to bring with you when babysitting.
-How to create a informational sheet for your clients (with contact info/allergies/etc).
Homework:
-Students will create a list (or actually put together) for their babysitting bag.
-Students will create their informational pages for clients.
-Students will collaborate with what they added to their bag, how they differ, and what things they would change once they see their classmates’ bags.

Week 4:
-How to find CPR & First Aid classes near you.
-What to do in case of an emergency.
-Extra things you can do while babysitting to enhance your service (such as doing any dishes you use).
Homework:
-Students will research cpr classes in their area.
-Students will compete in a Kahoot! game to test their knowledge when it comes to being a great babysitter/mother’s helper!
