Beginner Level
The curriculum and lessons for this class are curated based on the entrepreneurship and innovation curriculum in an MBA tailored towards technology ideas. The lessons walk through a common design thinking innovation framework that makes it easy for students to understand how ideas and companies are born. It is a life skill that enables them to look at challenges around them as innovations waiting to happen. Additionally, we are in the time of AI and there are so many tools that make it easy for anyone to bring their ideas to life and even build apps around it. Students will learn about some of the top AI tools for building that will spark their curiosity. I will be using a inquiry-based, hands-on teaching approach, where students learn not only from me but from each other. In addition to during classes, they will also be able to message me during the week as they work on their ideas. This class is not the end but rather the beginning of curiosity and building for young minds. Here's to having more startup founders innovating with great big ideas!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use the design thinking innovation framework to build on an idea and take it to viability
Students will learn how to use tools such as teachable machines (to build AI models), figma (to prototype) and low code tools to build ideas (actual tools will be based on recent advancements)
Syllabus
8 Lessons
over 8 WeeksLesson 1:
Every challenge is a problem to be solved
In this lesson, we look at how to map the daily journeys and identify ideas for problems to be solved from them. We will walk through an example in class and students will be encouraged to look through their days with this outlook in mind and identify one idea that they want to solve.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Is this really a problem that needs to be solved?
We teach approaches such as surveys and interviews that can be used to validate if the problem is valid and something that more people are looking to solve. Students will be taught tools to use to generate surveys and encouraged to share with their friends and family to get input.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Solutions galore: Art of identifying the one
We walk through different methods that can be used to come up with solutions - both new solutions and solutions by modifying existing products. Students will apply the techniques to think of a solution for their problem.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Can I build a business around this?
This lesson is all about analyzing if the idea can be a viable business. We walk through how to assess if we can make money and also thinking through what is different with our solution. Students will get templates that they can use to do this for their ideas.

Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Business Administration and Management from University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, India
I am a technology professional with both engineering and product management experience in Fortune 500 companies and scale-ups. During my 20 year experience, I have led many engineering teams and mentored countless new engineers. I graduated with my executive MBA last year from Leeds School of Business in Boulder. I have use this expertise in tech and business to craft the curriculum. With an ambitious elementary schooler I also understand that the lessons must be engaging and interesting. I have taught this class in a non-Outschool setting since November of last year, to help tweak the course based on the feedback. I have volunteered to teach kids English in India and have taught Indian music here in the US. While not the same, this has made me realize the patience and clarity needed to teach kids, which I enjoy.
