Flex Class: Learning About the World's Physical Geography One Map at a Time

During this six-week flex course, students will learn about the physical geography of the world by drawing their own atlas with the continents and oceans.  This course focuses on skills needed for map making, including map projections.  Students will also learn about physical geography, including different types of physical landscape and geographic features.  

Each week, students will be provided with instructions on how to draw the 2 maps for the week.  This course is very accessible to fit the needs of all learners.  It will include a video demonstration,  as well as step-by-step written instructions with pictures.  The lesson will conclude with a video presentation, highlighting the physical features of the area that was mapped.  Students can add those physical features to their maps as they see fit and decorate their maps individually.  Students will access the lesson through Nearpod and will not need to access any outside websites.

Week 1: Arctic Ocean & North America
Week 2: Eurasia 
Week 3: Indian Ocean & Africa
Week 4: South America & The Atlantic Ocean
Week 5: Australia & the Pacific Ocean
Week 6:The Southern Ocean and Antartica

Geography is great for visual learners.  This class will be great for students who like to doodle, draw and color, while they learn.  I will be giving step by step instructions on how to draw the maps, or students can use a pre-made outline that will be provided with each lesson.
