In this class, we will build from the financial adulting toolkit class to discuss the basics of income taxes that every teenager should know. Students will learn the importance of filing taxes, purpose of a W-4 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate) and how tax withholdings impact paycheck. Participants will learn how to read a pay stub. We will discuss federal and state tax calculations and details of a W-2 form. This class will use Nearpod (an award winning student engagement platform) as the teaching platform, and include practical discussions, activities, games, and educational video clips. Attendees will walk out with a clear understanding of what income taxes are and how they can affect financial decision making.
