Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate - Advanced Level
As a licensed Family and Consumer Science teacher, I have experience working with high school aged students on a wide variety of topics. In this course, I will be teaching topics that are similar to what you would find in a consumer education class. These topics will give your student a basic understanding of how to live on their own once they graduate high school and move out.

I try to make learning about these topics as fun as possible. This class is designed to be a simulation that is similar to playing the Game of Life.

Some of the topics that will be cover include (but are not limited to):
-Goal setting
-Career research
-Applying for a job
-Money tracking
-Loans
-Buying a car
-W4/W2/Taxes
-Renting and leases
-Furnishing an apartment
-Credit and credit cards
-Meal planning and grocery shopping
-Effective communication within interpersonal relationships
-Buying a house
-Finding a daycare and parenting
-Teamwork
-Healthy work environment
-Identify theft

My teaching style is student centered. I like to meet each student wherever they are in their education journey. Because of this, this class will be one on one so that I can ensure that each student has time to ask all their questions and work at the pace that they like and need.

There will be tasks that need to be completed in this course before moving on to the next lesson. These tasks can be completed as homework or in the class sessions with me: depending on the needs of the student.

This is a one on one class so students will not interact with other students in this course. They will have unlimited opportunity to interact with me during our sessions. The sessions will be a combination of discussion and lecture.
