Class Experience

(ages 5-10) This is a 25 minute interactive lesson where we learn about the incredible world of the Orca. I was a marine mammal trainer for 12 years and it is my passion to teach about these incredible animals. We will go over tons of fun facts and information. I will talk about where these animals are from, how they hunt using echolocation, their socialization and advanced communication! I provide many personal pictures of my time as a trainer as well as some videos which makes this lesson unique and exciting. I will ask students to engage and participate throughout the lesson. This lesson will also cover some threats to Orcas and how we can protect wildlife in the future. I am always available after class for parents or students to message me with any follow up questions they have pertaining to the class material. See you soon!

Learning Goals

Students will improve their knowledge of Orcas as well as gain ideas on how to conserve our oceans and other marine wildlife! With an ever changing world it is more important than ever to inspire children to learn about wildlife and how to preserve it for future generations to come.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Outschool Learners and Parents! My name is Teacher Crystal, I would love to share with you all about the world of marine life conservation, rehabilitation and training. I have worked within the animal conservation field for over 11 years. I have an extremely broad range of experience and would love to teach you all about the importance of animals and the environment. I have performed in presentations for 4 ½ years with birds, dolphins and pilot whales. I also worked for 4 years in interactions where I provided educational tours and presentations offering families personal up close experiences with the dolphins. The latter part of my career I worked at the Georgia Aquarium where I implemented a brand new educational presentation with dolphins to empower children to make a difference, through taking care of the environment and helping to preserve the future of all animal species. Throughout the chapters of my career I also had many unique experiences to help rescue and rehabilitate many different species of animals such as dolphins, sea lions and birds. Come dive in with me and let me share with you all my first hand unique experience and knowledge.
