This ongoing summer reading class is intended for learners who currently are reading on a 2nd grade reading level and based on Levelled Readers, the learner should be reading materials J through M. Although ages are somewhat flexible, your learner will be most successful if they are currently working on a second grade reading level. The class is offered June through August and will focus on a different fable or short story each week. The first class of each week will focus on phonics, reading and grammar skills. The second class of the week will focus on writing exercises designed teach the learners to use the writing process to create meaningful responses to the passage that was read that week. Parents are asked to print the reading selection and the comprehension questions for each week from the source cited in required materials before the first class of the week. Learners should always come to class with pencil, colored pencils or crayons, wipe-off board and marker and printed selection for the week. You can join the class on any given week, but both days of the week would be necessary for your learner to get the full impact of the class.
