Class Experience

What eats that?! In this interactive class, students will learn about the process of a food chain. We will discuss the vocabulary words: predators and prey. We will look at photos of a variety of animals and complete a discussion where they belong on the food chain. Together, we will create examples of food chains for under the water and food chains in the forest.

Students will complete their own food chain using the class handout, scissors, crayons/markers and tape. They will visually be able to see the process of how the food chain works in the environment.

I encourage students to bring their own stuffed animals to class so we can have a discussion about their specific animal. Is their animal a predator or prey? What can eat their animal? What can their animal eat?

Learning Goals

Students will improve their knowledge of food chains. Students will work on conversational skills by explaining their thought process for why an animal could be a predator or prey.

Hello!

My name is Shelby Loughlin and I am beyond thrilled to be teaching online with Outschool! My husband and I live in Iowa with our two cats. I have an intense love for the outdoors and wilderness exploration. My favorite hobby is hiking! I hope to share my love for nature and finding beauty in the outdoors with your children. I also enjoy crafting, reading and working with children.

I have been teaching in various settings for over 10 years! I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from Truman State University in 2013 and continued my education journey to obtain my master's degree in Elementary Education in 2015. I have taught second grade, fourth grade and even preschool. For the last three years, I have been a full-time online teacher educating students in China. I just adore the online teaching world and I am excited to add Outschool to my online experience.

My classes are energetic, lively and full of student engagement. My lessons will encourage students to see learning as an exciting time. I look forward to seeing your kiddo in my class. :)
