Welcome to Biology II! This is a semester-long high school biology class and best of all- the first semester of high school biology is NOT required. HS Biology II will be a fourteen week course exploring and studying the diversity of life. We will have online lab simulations with additional lab exploration opportunities. Resources and videos will be provided for additional enrichment opportunities the week before class. Parents, if you would like for your learner to have his or her own dissection experience at home, please contact me for additional details regarding labs. I will not be dissecting any specimens myself for a variety of factors but can provide information if learners are interested. Week 1 - Classification and Binomial Nomenclature - Dichotomous Key Lab Week 2 - Evolution & Cladograms - Cladogram Lab Activity Week 3 - Diversity of Life - Item Sort Activity Week 4 - Phylum Porifera & Cnidaria Week 5 - Phylum Platyhelminthes, Phylum Nematoda, Phylum Annelida - Earthworm Dissection (virtual) Week 6 - Phylum Arthropoda Week 7 - Phylum Mollusca - Squid dissection Lab (Virtual) Week 8 - Phylum Echinodermata Week 9 - Phylum Chordata Week 10 - Classes Agnatha, Chondrichthyes, and Osteichthyes - Shark Dissection (Virtual) Week 11 - Class Amphibia - Frog Dissection (Virtual) Week 12 - Class Reptilia Week 13 - Class Aves Week 14 - Class Mammalia All classes will begin in lecture format. Lab activities will begin during our class but may have to be completed outside of class for an additional enrichment experience. Additional study materials, notes and information may be posted throughout the week in the online classroom. Numerical and alphabetical grades will be assigned by parental request. These grades will be determine based on scored tests and exams and quizzes. Tests, exams and quizzes may be assigned outside of class. These may be open note tests or quizzes. Learners will be instructed the method they should be completed. I hope to see you this spring!
