Hello and Welcome! In this class we learn, practice, and apply critical, foundational writing skills. These are foundational skills for all kinds of writing including persuasive, argumentative, research, narrative (in many ways), informational, and descriptive. The skills the students learn and practice in this 4-session class apply to other types of writing they'll do in school, and out of school. The student will learn: 1. Critical, foundational writing skills such as hook, introduction, thesis statement, topic sentence, supporting details, transitions, conclusion. 2. How to break down prompts 3. How to apply the skills to various types of writing assignments

Homework Offered
After each class, the student will have about 1/2 hour of homework to be completed by the next class. The student will share it on the screen at the beginning of the following class and he/she will receive feedback. After the last class, the student will email it to me and I will email back a graded rubric with feedback and critique.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

The student will receive a graded rubric and feedback after 2 assignments.
Learner should know how to write complete sentences with proper capitalization and should have an understanding of a basic paragraph (topic sentence, supporting details).
There are times I will use articles from ReadWorks.org as allowed by this company due to a licensing fee I pay them monthly that allows me to use their resources when I teach.
