40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 1 - 2
In this class, students will have fun writing a variety of stories and paragraphs related to different prompts and personal experiences, while practicing to master the basic structure of a paragraph: beginning, details and concluding sentence. This is a weekly class and the groups will be small (5 students or less). Each week we will focus on a different type of text: descriptive (informational), narrative and opinion writing. We will cycle between these types of text but with different prompts and topics each week. Students can join anytime as the meetings do not build on knowledge, skills, or assignments from previous weeks. In the first 5-10 minutes of each class, we will talk about the structure of each type of text (for example, writing events in order with words that indicate order for narrative texts, or stating an opinion followed by reasons for opinion writing). Here are some of the topics that we will practice in the next few weeks: July 31 Contrast August 7 Contractions (Present Tense) August 14 Complete Sentences August 21 NO CLASS August 28 Capitalization September 4 An Invitation September 11 Using Adjectives Next, students will be provided with some fun ideas and writing prompts (for example, "Would you rather have unlimited pizza or unlimited ice cream? Why?") to practice what they have learned. Of course, students will always be encouraged to write about topics that are relevant to them, so they can always choose their own topic. At the end of each class, students who wish to do so may share their paragraphs with the group. They can also share it privately with me after class by submitting a picture, and I will provide them with personalized feedback.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Universidad de La Rioja
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to get to know me! My name is Aroa and I am passionate about learning. There's few things in life that get me as excited as learning more about a topic I find interesting, and sharing what I learned with others.
I graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education majoring in Elementary School Education and in English as a Foreign Language. I am a licensed K-12 teacher.
I have been teaching for more than 15 years now. I was an Elementary School teacher in North Carolina for 5 years. Then I started teaching online, which I have been doing for over 10 years now.
Teaching students with limited English proficiency has taught me how to explain things in a way that is simple and easy to understand. I believe that every student can benefit from that kind of instruction. I also believe that the student should be the center of the learning process. I like helping my students take control of the learning process, setting small, clear goals in front of them, helping them achieve them and then celebrating their success with them.
In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and my dog Pancake. I love learning new things, especially related to technology and languages. I am also a very creative person that loves writing and graphic design.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me better! I hope to see you soon in my classroom!
