Class Experience

Join Nicole on this fun learning to draw and shade with Charcoal in this 4 day class! Nicole will teach this fun class live in her studio. Students will create sketches of realistic subjects, use the basic shapes of art to build, and shade with Charcoal. It is best to have charcoal paper but mixed media can work as well.

Day 1: Talk about the Basic Shapes of Drawing and our charcoal pencils, Learn about gradients,Flat Shading, and Blending while drawing a tree/ forest scene
Day 2: Learn how to shade using cross-hatching and linear hatching- we will draw a dog or duck and add texture to the dog or duck to make it look realistic
Day 3: Learn how to shade using squiggles, dotting, and expressive lines- we will draw an outdoor scene.
Day 4: Student gets to decide which shading method to use ( or a mix) and their subject. Teacher is available for guidance during this class to help the student add in texture, shadows, highlights, and any questions that may come up.

We will do a quick check of the supplies and then start with a short lecture on the day's topic. Then we will progress into demonstration and questions the students may have. The students will spend the remaining time to draw using the day's topic. The students are welcome to ask questions and ask for guidance during this time. The teacher will check in with students as they draw independently. We will come back together towards the end of class to share our drawings. At the end of the process, we will have a better understanding of drawing with charcoal.
Learning Goals
