Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
**PLEASE NOTE** Occasionally, I run a class with fewer than 3 students. When I do, the class often runs shorter than the amount of time listed, due to the fact that less time is used with introductions, or with differing abilities and processing speeds in different students. The content is exactly the same, and in fact, can be considered a bargain for a private class.

In this fun and easy step-by-step drawing lesson for younger students, we will draw three flowers: a daisy, a rose, and a tulip, by beginning with simple lines and shapes. We will examine the ways each flower is unique, including the shapes of the blossoms and the leaves.
I like to outline my drawings with a Sharpie and encourage the students to use a permanent black marker if available, as the technique helps the flowers to stand out. Once outlined, we will discuss common colors for each flower. Students will have complete freedom to color their flowers with any color(s) and materials, though I use crayons and encourage the same because I like to paint the sky (the entire white space of the paper around the flowers) with blue watercolor paint, and turn it into a resist painting. Again, students have the choice of materials for this as well.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
For younger children: I encourage, but don't require, the use of Sharpies or similar black permanent markers as part of the drawing. As an elementary art teacher, I know how important it is to keep an eye on younger kids with permanent markers!

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
