Homework

1 hour per week. Not required, but students are welcome and encouraged to work on assignments and practice further between class sessions.

Assessment

Informal assessments will take place during class in the form of teacher observation and possible suggestions (as requested by students).

Grading

Certificates of Completion will be offered upon parent completion of feedback. Letter or Number grades will be offered per parent request.

US Grade 2 - 5

Beginner - Intermediate Level

Through the guided drawing process, students will learn how to use simple lines and shapes to create fun drawings in Kawaii style. 

My teaching style involves breaking the process down into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. I pace the class according to the needs of the students; if needed, I give fast finishers a break, allowing students who need more time to complete their work, the time to do so, and even then, finishing before class ends is NOT the objective. The examples in the picture are only suggestive; students may also request a particular favorite if time allows.

My classes are intended to be fun, informative, and a safe place to take artistic risks and make mistakes--that is experimentation, which artists do all the time!

At the end of class, students will be invited to share their creations no matter what their progress is.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about the origin and style of Kawaii art.

Students will use basic lines and shapes to create several drawings in Kawaii style.

Lesson 1:

Kawaii Sweet Treats

 We will draw 3-4 sweet treats in Kawaii Style

 We will draw 3-5 flowers in Kawaii Style

 We will draw 3-5 different birds Kawaii Style

 We will draw 3 different cactus characters in Kawaii Style

Supply List

Paper (copy paper or drawing paper is fine!)
Pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener
Black Sharpie for outlining
Coloring tools: student's choice of crayons, markers or colored pencils (I usually use colored pencils)

External Resources

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
