Diving Into Comprehension

In this course the students will read both nonfiction and fiction passages. The student will use the seven main comprehension skills to answer both nonliteral and literal questions. The following topics will be covered throughout the course with special highlights on specific comprehension skills each week.  In each section the student will interactively work  with the teacher to read a passage and using zoom tools annotating what we have read. I will be using goggle slides, zoom tools and discussion throughout our lesson. I try to make each lesson fun and engaging. Student will need to already be able to read and  decode words that have long vowel words. The passages that will be presented will vary in difficult. 

The following topics will be covered:  
Week 1  October 1st Main Idea
Week 2 October  8th  the elements of a story, setting, plot, characters.
Week 3 October 15 th  summarizing 
Week 4  October  29th drawing conclusions
Week 5 November 5th making predictions and inferring
Classes will continue till May

Structures of classes:
A new passage/text will be introduced in each class
Introduction of  new skill being taught
practice of new skill 
5 words to build vocabulary will be introduced before reading text
practice decoding  vocabulary and using the skill with teacher
Work on comprehension skill individually

homework practice of 1-3 words provided after class
