Dinosaur Math: Addition and Subtraction

Bring your dinosaurs and stomp around in math! Using toy dinosaurs, we will explore the concepts of early addition and subtraction skills (addition facts through adding double 10s). We will use the dinosaurs to act out addition as more dinosaurs join the group, and subtraction as the T-rex scares dinosaurs off. Students will be given different subtraction and addition problems to show using their toy dinosaurs. At the beginning of every class, there will be a quick review of what addition and subtraction is. Problems asked will be reflective of ongoing assessments made by the "head dinosaur" (teacher). *Note for dino-enthusists* There will be a mixing of dinosaurs that may not have lived at the same time period. The focus of this ongoing class is just to build comfort and understanding when it comes to addition and subtraction skills, not dino-based knowledge This class will be informal, and corrections will be made in a positive manner to encourage learning. I always encourage and support students as they try and I always encourage fun! (Other manipluatives are welcome if dinosaurs aren't available)
