Class Experience

Students will design a summer collection consisting of 4 creative looks that will showcase their fashion drawing techniques. Each lesson, we will learn how to draw and render summer-themed garments and fabrics. In our last class, we will put together a booklet that students can use for their fashion portfolios. Please note, parents may be needed to support students with cutting and bookbinding.

Week 1: Customer Profile and Moodboard
Part 1:
Students will learn how to create a moodboard using fashion and lifestyle magazines to reflect their designs and their customer. We will complete our customer profile page together.
Part 2:
We will move on and learn how to draw smocking details and design a dress.
Homework: Moodboard, Customer Profile, and complete 1st look.

Week 2: Cascading Ruffles
Students will learn how to draw cascading ruffles and design a top/dress with this detail.
Homework: Students will finish their look and share it in our next class.

Week 3: Pleats and Floral Prints
Students will learn how to draw pleats and floral prints. We will draw a look incorporating the two.
Homework: Students will finish their look and share them in our next class.

Week 4: Denim Overalls & Plaid Fabrics
Students will learn how to draw denim overalls and plaid fabrics. We will draw a look incorporating these techniques.
Homework: Students will finish their look and share them in our next class. In addition, students will need to have their fabric page cut out and ready for the next lesson.

Week 5: Booklet Making
Parents may be needed to help with bookbinding in class. We will work on the fabric page together. Students will need to have ready either fabric swatches ( at least 2x2 inches) or paint chips. We will tape the pages and bind our booklets! To conclude our class, students will present their finished booklet.

**No prior experience or knowledge is needed. I will provide students with a croquis template beforehand as well as all print-outs needed for each lesson prior to class. Please read over the supply list prior to class.**

Learning Goals

Students will learn:

- how to draw and render summer-themed fabrics & garments
- to understand the relationship between these garments and the body; how they interact with each other
- to develop their own style of drawing & gain confidence through practice
- have a booklet to creatively showcase their summer collection
