In this class, students will learn how to form lowercase and uppercase letters in cursive. Students will be shown how to form a letter, given time to practice independently and given feedback when and if necessary. Class will be very interactive with modeling and independent practice. Students should plan on daily homework of 10 to 15 minutes to ensure a strong foundation on the letters learned. Week 1: This week will be spent on learning how to form lowercase letters. This will not be taught in ABC order, instead it will be taught with specific strokes we will use with a group of letters. As we learn the letters, students will begin to learn how to form words and later on will begin to form sentences. We will learn 4 to 5 letters per day. Week 2: This week will be spent on learning how to form uppercase letters in cursive while also solidifying our skills on creating sentences using cursive writing. We will learn 4 to 5 capital letters a day. Practice after class is important to ensure that the strokes to create cursive letters are being retained.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Emy Delgado and I am a 4th grade grade teacher in Orlando, Florida! I have taught for 8 years, 7 of those have been in 3rd grade :) I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2016 with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I also have endorsement in Reading K- 12, ESOL and Gifted. My passion is developing the love for reading and math within my students. Every school year, I make it my goal for students to love reading by the end of the year. I would say last year I met that goal because my students, as a class, read 6,000,000 words! Yep, you read that right, six million words! I was beyond proud of them and their hard work. I also love to teach cursive to my students! They get so eager to learn a new letter and create sentences! Parents tell me all the time that their child goes home and practices their cursive any opportunity they can get. Math is another passion of mine! I love to teach students multiple strategies on how to solve one single problem. I always tell my students that we all think differently and so we have to find what works best for us.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with your student!
