Class Experience

Students will have fun in this play group type class, where we learn through creative play with LEGOs. In each class students will be working on their conversational skills. The students will be presented with different build challenges, participate in a discussion about the challenges to brainstorm things we could build, have time to build, and will then have fun sharing our projects! I will lead the conversation by provide ideas, suggestions, but ALL the creativity is left up to the student!

Building with LEGOs is a great way to work on our fine motor skills, using your hands to put together a building, a vehicle, a person, an animal, robots, or whatever you can imagine; manipulating the blocks with your hands and fingers will help build the muscles needed.

Class format is as follows:
-Be greeted and encouraged to introduce themselves.
- Be presented with two creative building challenges
-Use their creative thinking skills to design a LEGO creation
-Work on their fine motor skills to build your creation
-Use conversation skills such as: listening, sharing, taking turns
-Build a community of friends by giving Ideas, suggestions, or asking questions if needed

My role is primarily aiding students in their conversation skills; meaning I am there to help draw out students creativity and give them the tools needed to share their creations! To do so, I assign a challenge, brainstorm ideas, and ask prompting questions to help students get going. As students work on their build I will check in by asking questions on what they are working on. Students are also encouraged to share whenever they are ready. This leads to group discussions that allow the students to share discuss the challenge creations and ask questions.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their fine motor skills and their conversational skills by sharing their love of building with LEGOs with peers who love the to build too!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Learning through play is how I encourage my students (and children at home) to learn! There is so many different ways a build or conversation can go, so there’s always something new to learn. I have been a certified teacher for over 10 years and a mom to 3 boys. I love using LEGOs to teach so many skills because kids absolutely love them!
