Class Experience

Course overview: Students will have a different writing prompt and focus each week. Students are encouraged to use their own creativity to make their own ideas come to life. Each class session we have a different skill to focus on.

Some weeks we may work on great introduction ideas, other weeks we may work on using descriptive words. Students do not need previous writing experience in school. Students may enter the course at any time and stop the course at any time. Our goal is to focus on a different skill each week so that students may start class at any time. Some skills may be rotated and studied numerous times to strengthen writing skills.

We will learn some grammar concepts during class to assist learners in the writing process. Students are encouraged to be creative and use their imagination. However, writing ideas and prompts are provided weekly to help assist those that have a little trouble getting started with an idea.

Class is 30 minutes.
10 minutes new skill/prewriting
10 minutes working together and on our own
10 minutes to share ideas and ask questions.
assignments can be continued after class and presented the next week during "show and tell time"
Writers are never forced to share their work. We will have time for writers to share each week if they would like to.

Our class is highly verbal! Great ideas are meant to be shared! Writers can help each other with ideas while we start brainstorming and prewriting. The teacher encourages peer to peer encouragement and feedback as well as feedback and encouragement from the teacher. The teacher will help students grow their writing skills and will give ideas, tips for improvement, but she will never criticize a students writing or make them feel unwelcome in class.

Please keep in mind that student must write /share topics that follow Outschool policies and classroom appropriate topics are all welcome.

Please check the classroom quarterly to see new writing topics. There will be a PDF printable in the classroom for enrolled students. This will keep parents and students up to date on writing topics and skills we will cover week by week.

Class writing schedule:
week of Nov. 1: my underwater home, capitals
week of Nov. 8: I went to visit mars, brainstorming
week of Nov.15: my own land of adventure, fantasy/fairytale stories, introductions
week of Nov. 22: my own land of adventure week 2, more fantasy stories and fairytale stories, endings and conclusions
week of Nov. 29: I am a superhero, character traits

Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Friends,

I would like to welcome you to learning and growing through immersion in core subject areas. I specialize in Japanese, Korean, English Language Arts, American History, and Physics. Classes are always interactive and encourage participation, interaction, and hands on virtual components to keep learners engaged.

I am excited to teach your student and strive to make our lesson time valuable. I have put in extensive time creating all curriculum, activities, handouts, and course information to make the most of our class time!

My background includes studying at Charter Oak State College, earning a TESOL from Glasgow University, Scotland, UK, and earning extensive teaching certificates from the TEXAS A&M Extension Program. I have previously lived in Tokyo, Japan for four years. During that time I completed the Defense Language Institute Korean and Japanese Programs. I have also attended the Cyber Institute of Korea for Korean language studies, Hanyang University and Yonsei University (located in Korea) for additional Korean language courses of study. I enjoy furthering my experience and continue to take additional courses to increase my knowledge in several subject areas.

My experience includes teaching Japanese culture and language, Korean culture and language, and English as a second language. I have also taught core subjects through homeschool co-op classes with classrooms of up to 20 students.

I currently own and operate an online K-6 school called Noble Homeschool Academy where homeschoolers participate in core subjects as well as foreign language, art, music, and book club. I have been teaching for fourteen years and hope to enjoy many more years of teaching!

I have experience with students in grades K-8. Creating engaging curriculum will open the mind of any reluctant learner. I enjoy watching my students find a new interest and love of learning with every class.

My extensive online teaching experience allows your student to enjoy an interactive environment even though we are virtual! My journey as a military spouse has taken my all over the world and I enjoy inserting the knowledge and experiences into educational content that children may not get to otherwise experience. I understand the difficulties students face learning new and challenging content. I believe that my classes are light hearted and encouraging but packed full of substance!
