Bring your arts and crafts supplies and let's have fun illustrating our creative writing! In this class we will enjoy reflecting on some famous quotes, creatively writing about them and artistically illustrating our journal pages. Creative Journaling (which is a combination of creative writing paired with artful design) is an uprising and rapidly growing trend that is a fun way to decorate our reflections with creative modalities like markers, stickers, stamps, dried flowers and more....
We will work in 3 phases for each quote provided. Phase 1 will have the quote written on the screen. Learners can then transpose the quote into their journals (giving credit to the author) in an artistic format of their choosing. Phase 2 will give students time to journal what this quote means to them. Phase 3 will include learners having time to illustrate their journal page with drawings, stickers, and other fun embellishments of their choosing. Students may choose to share or not to share their exciting creations!! Students will have the beginnings of a keepsake journal when class is finished.
I have been a formal college level English teacher, teaching English literature, creative writing and research paper/thesis writing. I have been a homeschooling mother for over 20 years. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature and Composition from Roosevelt University. I am a published children's storybook author and graphic design illustrator. I have taught all ages from preschool though adult whether it be through community college, homeschool co-op or other educational endeavors. In addition, I have been an online ESL teacher since 2019 and have had the joy of teaching English to children all over the world.
All skill levels are welcome in this class. This class is designed for learners to enjoy creating a new project and have fun in a relaxed environment. Everyone's unique learning needs are welcomed and supported.
Students are encouraged to grab their favorite art supplies for writing, illustrating and art design, such as markers, colored pens and pencils, stickers or dried flowers along with a fresh journal with lined or unlined paper. The sky is the limit with how students can decorate their journals. All the art supplies are completely optional, and students can use as much or as little of those embellishments as they like.
Creating a class environment where students feel welcome and encouraged is number 1! My name is Carolyn Larson and my first objective when teaching students is to help learners find their voices and creatively express their ideas in a way that...
