This ongoing subscription class is a weekly drop-in course where we will practice and share different art techniques and create our own nature journals together. Since this class is set up as an ongoing class and is not progressive, you are not required to attend all weekly classes. You can start and stop your subscription at any time! Each week, we will share an experience, an animal and/or plant to add to our journals. Students can pick from an optional theme, or draw whatever they are interested in adding to their art journal. Using any and all art materials on hand, students will draw, sketch, paint, color and/or collage the scene or object in their journal. During the course I will demonstrate several art mediums, including watercolor, colored pencil, pastels, collage and markers. We can research things to put into our journals by doing live internet searches or using physical books that I have on hand. Some of the themes included in this course are: - Share your favorite animal - Let's learn about herbs! - nature scavenger hunts - Birds and Bugs - Identifying and painting flowers - Toxic plants and venomous creatures! - Trees - Share a day you spent in nature - Rocks, minerals and gemstones - Strange and fascinating plants - Cute vs. "creepy" animals - What do you collect? - Amphibians and Reptiles Themes are always optional. Students are free to pick one of their own or ask for help in formulating a plan for adding it to their journal. The goal is to create an exciting, creative diary of nature adventures, ideas and goals! To get the most out of this class, I recommend having a wide variety of art supplies on hand. Your student may be inspired to use a combination of watercolor, pastels and glitter glue one week...and construction paper, glue and crayons the next! I encourage students to explore and discover their own art styles and preferences, so there is no wrong way to create your journal. At the end of each class, students are encouraged to share what they have made in class, but can also complete some of their pages offline and post in the classroom later. This class is very student-led and each child may choose to draw a completely different animal, plant, scene, etc. I will not necessarily be providing step-by-step drawing or painting instructions unless a student specifically requests help with a particular design or idea. For those who might also enjoy a structured, progressive art course, please check out my other classes or my private tutoring sessions. You might even consider taking them concurrently, especially if you desire to learn more specific art skills.
