Intermediate Level
The students will learn the fundamentals of developing their pieces wisely, by controlling the center of the board, getting the knights and bishops active at the beginning, castling their king, connecting their rooks, and not moving their queen and rook early in the game. We will study a game showing an example of poor development and study a game showing an example of good development. The students will learn about not moving too many pawns at the beginning and to not move the same pieces...
By learning the fundamentals of developing their pieces wisely, the students will improve their game by not falling into common traps experienced by many chess players.
Homework Offered
Students will receive chess puzzle sheets to be printed out. The chess puzzle sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand how to solve them.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle sheets and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.Grades Offered

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the students to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
