Comprehension Strategies for Beginning Second Grader Readers

Read about animals, fairy tales and more. In this ongoing class for end of 1st and beginning of 2nd grade readers, students will learn comprehension strategies that will include activating prior knowledge, questioning, and predicting. This will all happen while reading a variety on fiction and nonfiction texts. The emphasis is on the thinking skills needed to comprehend what is being read.

Description

Class Experience

Students will be about to read a text, retell the information, determine the main idea and supporting details, compare and contrast, summarize and retell the story. Additionally, the will be able to read and answer comprehension questions about the text.

Occasionally, a white board for answering questions.
Informal teacher assessment/ observation.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will provide reading materials. The leveled books will be read on the screen. Hard copies will not be provided.
