Applying to college? Learn how to strengthen your application with a high-quality essay! Your essay is an opportunity to be more than just a number to the application committee and it's important to maximize the opportunity and show what you bring to the table as a student. In this overview of the college essay process, we will discuss the importance of the personal essay in your overall application and identify characteristics of a strong essay. We will review the process for writing an effective essay and each student will create a personal timeline for their own essay process. You'll also receive additional materials you can use on your own to work on your essay once the class is over. This class is intended as an introduction for students who are just starting their essays or who are looking ahead to writing an application essay in the future.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the importance of the personal essay as a component of the college application process; they will evaluate sample essays and identify what makes them effective; they will articulate the process for writing an effective essay; they will develop an individual plan for completing their college essay.
