Class Experience

This class is for those who are interested in learning more about coding. Whether you are just beginning or you are well acquainted this private tutoring can help you take your understanding and coding abilities to the next level. Come learn to code for yourself, all levels welcome from beginner to advanced!

Private tutoring available in:
- Scratch (which is freely available and is basically used to create animations and games).
- Python (software which can be freely downloaded to your computer)
- MATLAB (which requires families to purchase a licence)

Lessons are tailored to each learners skill level and interest. Each class will include coding alongside the tutor starting from the basics and gradually advancing towards complex coding involving plotting and learning about various ways to visually display different data. You do not need to have access to all programs / languages you can choose which of the three or combination of the three you wish you learn.

This class is taught by: Mahith Madhanakumar

Mahith has a Masters in Theoretical Physics from Cochin University of
Science and Technology as well as a Masters by research in Space
Physics. During his academic career, Mahith has published his research
works about the universe (specifically on dark energy which causes the
universe's expansion) and on the ionosphere (which is our upper
atmosphere) in international peer-reviewed journals, and is currently
pursuing his PhD in Space Physics. He uses programming languages like
Python and MATLAB in his research to analyse data collected by
satellites and radars to study the physics of the ionosphere.

Mahith's teaching style varies according to the audience. He was the
teaching assistant for undergraduate students at UNB where the sessions
involved lectures with occasional hands-on-demos and tutorials on
physics problems. He was also the volunteer for a science centre in New
Brunswick where he helped kids and teenagers in understanding science
exhibits and experiments and the physics behind them in an interactive
manner. At Science East, Mahith was the primary educator for coding
lessons given to kids and teenagers and have taught students how to code
in Python and also in Scratch (which is an online platform to create
animations and games without really having to write codes!). He starts
with the very basics and gradually progresses toward complex coding
based on the student's pace and understanding.

Mahith encourages students to ask questions and guides them to think
outside the box instead of giving direct answers to arrive at answers
based on logical reasonings - an approach known as SQI (Structured
Quantitative Investment) approach which he employs a lot during
discussion and interactive sessions.

Parental Guidance
Resources for this class vary depending on your learner's interest. Private tutoring is available using your choice of the following three resources Scratch, Python and MATLAB. - Scratch (Outschool pre-approved resource). Families must create a free account and give learners access to the program. - Python is a programming language downloaded onto a computer. It is not account based. - MATLAB (not pre-approved resource). Families will need to purchase a student subscription on behalf of their children. Mathworks never rents or sells your personal data, and emails for k-12 students are never used in email marketing. Parents can review and control what data Mathworks has access to. You can view their privacy policies here - https://www.mathworks.com/company/aboutus/policies_statements.html
