Calling all Pokémon lovers! This class is a space to share your love of all things Pokémon and connect with other Pokémon fans. Do you like to invent your own? Do you like to play the games? Collect the collectables? Let's get to know each other and build some community. This class will be part educator-facilitated and part learner-led. This combination gives learners the autonomy to choose how they participate in class and connect with other like-minded kids. So much of our children's day is regulated by others, this class provides children with the freedom and autonomy of choosing their activity to create a more personal feel and to allow for authentic friendships to form over common interests, a true playdate with friends! The class format will be as follows: Weekly meet and greet - meet new friends and see if friends have new items or updates to share Learner choice activity - Activities could include (but aren't limited to): Discussion o Pokémon (characteristics, favourites, likes/dislikes) o game theory o anime Show / Tell o Cards o Stuffies o Collectables o Drawings / Creations Games o Inventing new Pokémon and regions o Who’s that Pokémon (by image or by description) o Showdown o Card battles (full or attack) Pokémon Fusions Pokémon Ranking Pokémon Quizzes Requirements for learner-led activities are: 1) They do not require learners to share personal information. (Using the battle simulator Showdown is accepted as learners do not need to make an account, do not need to share any personal information and the chat is disabled). 2) Are Positive experiences for all. Friends will be sure to use appropriate language and actions for our classroom. 3) They are inclusive. All friends who wish to join in are welcome to do so and are given a fair and equal chance to participate. During the learner's choice portion of the class, learners will be partnered with other learners in the class who wish to participate in the same activity as them. This may occur as one large group or learners may be provided with the option of utilizing a supervised breakout room to give them the space to connect with friends over a chosen activity. Any new friends joining in certainly have the freedom to choose what they would like to do with their time in class as well however without likely fully understanding or knowing all the options new friends are encouraged to stay with the main group and enjoy our main room large group activity, which usually involves rotating through different suggested activities. This class is currently hosted by two of our educators (see below). We know that consistency is important, and so each educator runs their own section(s) of the class, on the occasion, an educator will not be able to attend class, we will offer the class with one of the other educators as a substitute. Families will always be provided as much advance notice of this as possible. Donna Richmond - Donna is an experienced online educator and has been leading classes on Outschool since 2018.
