Let's Master Algebra! + Ongoing Curriculum Support/Homework Help + Is this class right for my child? If they are currently learning Algebra or want to learn Algebraic thinking, then yes! This ongoing class allows students to support their current math efforts, revisit key concepts and engage with other leaners to strengthen their mathematical understanding. Major mathematical concepts are presented and repeated so no perquisites are required. Public and private school students, traveling students, homeschoolers and everyone in between are welcome and will greatly benefit! Who is teaching this class? Hi there! I’m Shawn Finnerty. You can take a look at my bio here on Outschool, but in short I am a highly-effective math teacher with over 12 years of teaching and curriculum implementation experience. I also have a Masters in Education, which provides significant additional training in curriculum development and implementation strategies. When can I join? ANYTIME! Join us for a week or the year. As this is an ongoing class, your learner can join us and hit the ground running by participating in our daily brain teasers or challenge question to get ready for class. Schedule: Week #1 - Foundations Review Week #2 - 1-Step, 2-Step Equations Week #3 - Multi-Step Equations Week #4 - Inequalities Week #5 - Isolating Variables (multiple variable equations) Week #6 - Coordinate Grid and Slope Week #7 - Linear Equations Week #8 - Graphing Lines Week #9 - Exponents and Expressions Week #10 - Quadratic Introduction **Schedule updated regularly to reflect changes to best support class differentiated needs.**
Learning Goals
1. Mastering basic operations: Develop fluency in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers, fractions, and decimals.
2. Solving equations: Learn techniques for solving linear equations and inequalities, including multi-step equations and equations with variables on both sides.
3. Understanding functions: Gain a solid understanding of linear functions, including graphing lines, finding slope, and writing equations in slope-intercept form.
4. Applying problem-solving strategies: Practice using algebraic techniques to solve real-world problems involving rates, ratios, proportions, and percentages.
