Class Experience

In this relaxed, learner-centered class, we'll come together each week to:

- Share Stories and Photos: Introduce our cats, tell funny or fascinating cat stories, and celebrate the amazing things our feline friends do!

- Explore Cat Ecology and Biology: Discover cat behaviors, adaptations, their roles in ecosystems, and what makes them such unique and captivating creatures. Each week, we'll explore a new feline topic—from domestic cat communication and breeds, to wild cats like lions, tigers, and bobcats.

- Discuss Wild Cats: Our fascination won't stop at domestic cats! We'll dive into the exciting world of wild felines, including their habitats, hunting styles, conservation challenges, and how they're both similar and different from our own house cats.

Interest-Based Learning:
Learners’ own curiosity and questions will guide our weekly discussions. By following the group's interests, we'll explore deeper into topics learners find most exciting, connecting biology, ecology, conservation, and even history through our shared love for cats. This approach helps make learning meaningful, memorable, and fun!

Classes begin with a short instructor-led mini-lesson or presentation, followed by open discussions, questions, and storytelling. Learners are invited (but never required) to bring their actual cats, photos, stories, or drawings of cats to share with the group.

Upcoming Class Topics Include:

- How Cats Communicate: Meows, Purrs, and Body Language
- Lions, Tigers, and Leopards: Life of the Big Cats
- Cat Breeds Around the World
- The Hunting Life: Domestic and Wild Cat Behaviors
- Cats in History: How Humans and Cats Became Friends
- Amazing Cat Adaptations: Claws, Eyes, Whiskers, and Camouflage

No prior knowledge is required—just bring your curiosity and love for cats! Learners may join at any point; each class stands alone.

Hello! My name is Arwen, and I love ecology, science, and teaching! I over a decade of experience as an ecologist and am currently working on my doctorate in STEM education.

I've spent years teaching science to curious learners of all ages, helping them explore the wonders of nature, animals, and the environment. At home, my adventures are shared with two curious cats named Kwazzi and Eratosthenes—who may make occasional appearances!

Cat's are my favorite animal!
