What is more fun than playing with your food? Doing math using candy! The class will begin by opening a bag of the original flavor skittles and pouring it onto a plate. Next, we will organize the skittles by colors. We will make a bar graph using our skittles. After sorting the skittles on the graph, we will color the bar graph, based on how many of each color we have. Then we will do addition facts using our skittles. After the class, the children may choose to eat the Skittles. Each bar graph will vary based on the number of each color in your bag. It will be interesting to compare our bar graphs.
Learning Goals
Students will practice addition and subtraction facts and making a bar graph.

Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi! I'm a certified educator hailing from New York with a Master's in Special Education and a Bachelor's in Childhood Education. With experience across all elementary grades, I currently nurture young minds in first grade. Transitioning to distance learning, I leveraged Zoom to teach reading, math, science, social studies, and conduct engaging class meetings from March to June. Despite missing face-to-face interactions, I fostered connections through inventive activities like pet/stuffed animal show and tell, phonics-based scavenger hunts, and guided drawing sessions, ensuring learning remained enjoyable.
I designed and executed an enriching year-long fairy tale curriculum, exploring multicultural and traditional tales from various perspectives, nurturing critical thinking among students. I thrive on building lasting relationships with my students and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to meet you!
