This course will be a fun, discussion based course where students work on their own home science projects with a group of excited teens around the world. I am a research scientist by trade and I have been conducting independent scientific research in academia for 6 years. I have tackled many scientific questions, but I first found my spark doing scientific research participating in my 8th grade science fair. Many students don't have the opportunity to conduct an independent research project, which is a shame because this is my favorite part of science. My goal is to expose students to what real scientific research is like. A lot of students are TAUGHT science, but I want to teach them how to DO science.
When picking a project, I encourage parents and students to work together to select a project that uses materials already accessible at home.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
