Websites are the foundation of digital marketing for every size business. Whether you are a global corporation or a startup entrepreneur, a website is critical to pulling together all the pieces of reaching and engaging with your audience. In this three-week course we will take both beginner and intermediate designers through the design strategy to the actual building of a website utilizing templates from SquareSpace. Each class will start with a PowerPoint to outline the principles and key learning objectives. We will then jump into live screen sharing --- my screen for demo purposes, and the students can share screens as well to show and receive feedback when we are creating the actual websites. Course outline will follow as such: Week 1: Understand how websites fall into a wider marketing strategy. We will also look at the framework for the design of a website: Strategic Goals, Design Goals, Outline and Assets. Week 2: We will review the goals and outlines for the website and spend time learning the SquareSpace platform. Students will begin creating their first website in this class. Week 3: Each student will showcase their draft website and we will give constructive feedback and encouragement. We will also look at analytics and how to measure the effectiveness of a website. By the end of the course, each student should have a clear sense of utilizing websites within a wider marketing strategy and also they will have the success of creating their very own professional looking website! Please note that there is a significant amount (2-4 hours) of "homework" that will be completed in weeks 1 and 2, but it should be very exciting for the student!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Heidi. I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA in the US, but I currently live in the warm, (always) sunny Caribbean - Trinidad & Tobago to be exact. I have my bachelors in Marketing from the University of Pittsburgh and my MBA from Georgetown University (Washington, DC).
I have two awesome kids, and became hooked on Outschool during the year that we homeschooled my son. Even though he's back into a high school, we still take Outschool classes as a way to pursue interests and add a wonderful dynamic to the education process. That's also why I teach! Aside from earning so that I can help my kids take classes (hehe), I love connecting with the next generation from around the globe and providing a holistic (and fun!) perspective to every class.
I have traveled to many countries (over 20 and counting!) and love adventures with the family. I love to make learning fun, and would consider it an honor to spend time teaching and sharing with you!
