Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner Level
Welcome all readers and eaters! From short stories and poems, to graphics novels and trilogies, this class discusses one piece of literature per week.

While the book club is mostly for engaging in reading comprehension skills, we will also be creating a sweet treat to match the book's topic and/or theme. These treats will not require extensive culinary skill, but if kiddos need adult assistance in the kitchen that is perfectly okay. During our lessons we will also cover basic skills such as vocabulary, plot, and other literary devices used by the author. Using my over a decade of teaching experience, I will use curriculum based questioning to drive the discussion and dig deeper into the book so that we can all learn the FUNdamentals of reading.

Speaking of FUN, let’s go over the rules. No boring lessons allowed. That’s it. I am a fun loving, excitement seeking, engaging yet patient educator who enjoys seeing learning come to life.

In this session, we'll dive into the charming world of the book "Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream". ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Please be sure to read the novel prior to the start of class⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book Title: Stick Dog Dreams of Ice Cream

Before class begins, make sure you have the following ingredients and tools ready:

2 cups heavy cream half and half, or whole milk (you can also use coconut milk as a non-dairy alternative)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6-8 cups ice
1/3 cup rock/kosher salt
2 gallon sized freezer bags

**Suggestions: For the best consistency, it is best to use 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 cup of whole milk. Also, don’t forget to grab a kitchen towel or gloves to handle the cold.

Through a captivating session, we’ll explore the story’s main ideas and enrich our vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. To complement our literary journey, we'll roll up our sleeves and make a scrumptious sweet treat—homemade ice cream! (vegan/non-dairy alternatives suggested below). This activity will NOT require a stove top, oven or utensils.

This one-hour course promises a fun blend of learning and creating. Keep an eye out for more pop-up classes and weekly sessions designed to spark curiosity and creativity in young learners. Don’t miss this sweet opportunity to combine reading and cooking in a memorable way!
